Houthi ballistic missile intercepted

Riyadh, Apr. 17 (BNA): Spokesman for the coalition in support of the legitimacy in Yemen Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, said that the Saudi Royal Air Force detected at 10:16 p.m. on Monday the launch of a ballistic missile by Iran-backed Houthi militia from within the territory of Yemen (North of Amran governorate) towards Saudi Arabia.
He said that the missile was in the direction of the city of Najran and was launched to deliberately target civilian populated areas. The Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces intercepted it, resulting in the dispersal of missile fragments on some residential areas. No casualties were reported until the time of this statement. Al-Maliki said that this hostile action by the Houthi militia proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in providing the Houthi armed militia with qualitative capabilities in clear and explicit defiance of the UN resolutions 2216 and 2231 to undermine Saudi Arabia’s security and regional and international security. He added that firing ballistic missiles on populated cities is contrary to international law. -- Saudi Press Agency (SPA) I.Y BNA 0558 GMT 2018/04/17
